What is Sustainability?
Sustainability means meeting today’s needs without compromising tomorrow. At HAGS, we take this seriously, designing lasting solutions that care for people, communities, and the planet. We are committed to proving our progress and being transparent about our goals, one sustainable step at a time.
Creating a sustainable business
At HAGS, four key sustainability frameworks - CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility), ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance), SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), and the CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive) - guide our commitment to a responsible and forward-thinking future. Understanding the distinct roles and interconnections of these frameworks is essential for our customers, employees, and suppliers.
What is ESG?
ESG gives us a structured way to integrate environmental, social, and governance factors into our operations. It helps us manage risks and opportunities more effectively, measure performance clearly, and stay compliant strengthening both our resilience and our appeal.
ESG covers three main areas that HAGS report on to our stakeholders:
1 Environmental
Assesses the impact of business operations on the natural world, addressing environmental risks and compliance.2 Social
Evaluates the impact of business operations on society, ensuring stakeholder needs and interests are met.
3 Governance
Examines internal controls for decision-making and business operations, governing ethical, sustainable, and transparent behaviour. What is CSR?
At HAGS, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) means being accountable to our people, communities, and the planet. We aim to create positive impact through community engagement, ethical marketing, and a culture built on trust and integrity - while staying mindful of our social, environmental, and economic responsibilities.
What are SDGs?
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a set of 17 global goals established by the United Nations in 2015, aimed at addressing a broad range of global challenges. They are part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The SDGs cover social, economic, and environmental development issues, providing a comprehensive framework for achieving sustainable development worldwide.
These goals are interlinked and are designed to be achieved together, promoting a holistic approach to sustainable development.
Throughout our Sustainability Framework, we aim to show how our business meets SDGs.

What is CSRD?
In 2023, the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) was enacted, enhancing the rules for corporate social and environmental reporting. It now mandates large companies and listed SMEs, including some non-EU companies with significant EU market presence, to report on sustainability. The CSRD ensures stakeholders can evaluate companies' impact on people and the environment, and investors can assess related financial risks. It also reduces reporting costs through standardized information.
How does HAGS report on sustainability?
We continue to pursue a strategy that brings together product excellence, customer centricity, sustainability, and strategic partnerships - helping us maintain our position as a leader in outdoor recreational equipment.
Our sustainability approach integrates ESG principles and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG's). By aligning our operations with global standards, we strengthen our ability to manage environmental, social, and governance risks and opportunities. This alignment also ensures we meet the latest CSRD reporting requirements, reinforcing our commitment to sustainability, transparency, and accountability - regardless of the size or scale of our operations.
What is Greenwashing?
Today it is difficult for customers to make sense of the many labels on the environmental performance of products (both goods and services) and companies.
Some environmental claims are unreliable, and customers trust in them is extremely low. Customers can be misled, and companies can give a false impression of their environmental impacts or benefits - a practice known as greenwashing. With a new law on green claims, the EU is taking action to address greenwashing and protect both customers and the environment.
Ensuring that environmental labels and claims are credible and trustworthy will allow consumers to make better-informed purchasing decisions. It will also boost the competitiveness of businesses striving to increase the environmental sustainability of their products and activities.

To ensure credibility and transparency and avoid greenwashing claims, we have adopted the CSRD Reporting Framework for sustainability reporting and monitoring, and we use the Nordic Swan Ecolabel to certify the sustainable credentials of some of our products.
